Decide on a budget, a good rule of thumb is that the gown should be 8% of the cost of your wedding. This figure is only a guide line and includes, alterations, bridal accessories, shoes, hair and make up.
The wedding venue you have chosen will determine the formality of your wedding attire. A wedding outdoors will allow you to have an informal wedding dress, while a large church wedding will need a formal bridal gown.
If you have fallen in love with a wedding dress that is out of your price range, ask if it is available in an alternate fabric. Often manufacturers will offer the same dress in variety of fabrics.
Keep in mind the time of year of your wedding. Light weight fabrics such as silks and organza will be best suited for wedding gowns being worn in warm weather. A winter wedding dress looks great in velvets, and medium weight fabrics, such as satin.
